Eva Thomas (née Rice) was a respected Elder and Knowledge Keeper from the Snuneymuxw First Nation. She was a fluent speaker of the Hul’q’umi’num’ language and generously shared her knowledge of the language, history, culture and traditions of the Snuneymuxw people with linguists and scholars. She was an active member of her community and dedicated her time to the revitalization of Hul’q’umi’num’ language, culture, and traditions.
Eva Thomas was born to Mrs. Hilda Wesley Rice (née Bob) Qw’ustanulwuit and Mr. Charles Rice Kwulasultun (1890-1937), the son of Mary Rice née Pielle | Xalanamut and George Rice . Her siblings were Dr. Ellen White (née Rice); Sophie Rice; Bertha James (née Rice); Russell Rice; Aleck Rice; Ann Williams (née Rice); Margaret Rice; Louise Gibson (née Rice) and Jean Thomas (née Rice).
