CA-Raven and his children
qux ts’u tthu me’mun’us.
He had many children.
qxe’lutseeylh ts’u ’u tthu me’mun’us tthu spaal’.
Raven had many children.
wulh kw’eli’ tthu stl’ul’iqulh.
And the children were getting hungry.
’i ’uwu te’ sxlhast-s tthu me’mun’us.
And there was nothing to feed them with.
wulh tus tthu yu ’i’mush yu kwun’eem’ ’u tthu qwthalus yu sul’its’ ’u tthu slhewut’
Someone came walking along, holding a platter of herrings.
mmm, [suw’] pte’mutewut [’iis ’uw’ ts’ulhtun].
And the person asked [if they had food].
suw’ thut-s, “’a.a.a ’uy’. ’ehwe’t-s tthu nu me’mun’u.”
And he said, “Oh, good. Let them give it to my children.”
suw’ hwiwshs tthu me’mun’us.
So, he brought his children forward.
suw’ wenshum tthu slhewut’, pasutum tthu stl’ul’iqulh.
So, the herrings were tossed, thrown to the children.
’i’ ni’ tl’e’ wulh luq’elhtum ’utl’... kwthey’uw’nilh… ni’ tsun wulh mel’qt tthu snes. [spaal’]
But that one, I forgot his name, positioned his mouth in the way.
wulh lhe’qulht tthu thathuns, tthuw’nilh ni’ lhup’tth’t tthu... tthey’ ni’ smeem’t
He positioned his mouth and slurped up what was being given.
tl’e’ wulh qul’et ’i’ ye.e.e tl’e’ wulh wenshum thu slhewut’ ’u kwus wenshum.
And again, the herrings were thrown out.
’i’ ni’ tl’e’ wulh yuw’an’thut ’u tthu me’mun’us.
But again, he went ahead of his children.
’i’ ts’u lhulhel’ ’i ’u kw’u’inulh ’i’ ’i ts’u hwuhwiw’ tthu stl’ul’iqulh
He was beyond them; the children were in front of him.
rp: nilh mens tthu stl'ul'iqulh tthu ni' yu xut'e 'u tthey'?
It was the children’s father that was doing this?
CA: 'uwu 'ul' kwus 'ulhtunnamut tthu stl'ul'iqulh.
The children weren’t able to eat.
’i’ ’uw’ nilh ’ul’ tthuw’nilh tsi’tsut ni.i.i’ xut’e’ ’u tthey’, spaal’.
It was the parent, Raven, who kept doing that.
hay ’ul’ qux tthuw’ne’ullh stl’ul’iqulh.
There were a lot of those children.
’i’ hwi’ ’uw’ hay’ ’ul’ ni’ yu lhey’xt, yu lhep’tth’t tthu... wenshum tthu slhewut’ ’u kws wenshewut.
And he was the only one that eating, slurping the... the herrings that were being tossed.
’i’ ni’ tl’e’ wulh luq’elhtus tthu thathuns ’u tthu me’mun’us.
And he would put his mouth in front of his children.
ni’ tl’e’ wulh nilh ni’ ts’um’ut tthu lhey’xt tthu... [slhewut’].
And he would be the one to catch the food in his mouth, the... [herrings].
’uwu te’ ts’u ’ul’ kw’ na.a.a’nuts’a’ ni’ kwunnuhw ’u tthu stl’ul’iqulh tthu slhewut’.
Not even one of the children caught any herring.
nuw’ hay’ ’ul’ ni’... nilh ni’ lhuylhuyxt thu slhewut’, ni’ ’uw’kw’.
He was the only one who ate up the herrings.
sis tl’e’ wulh qul’e.e.et huye’ tthey’.
And then that one [giving the herrings] left again.
nem’ tl’e’ wulh kwunulhtstum tthuw’ne’ullh.
He went to get some more for them.
nuw’ kweyul ’i’ nem’ tl’e’ wulh ’ehwe’tum.
The next day, he went back to give them some more.
tl’e’ wulh pte’mutum ’i’ tl’uw’ thut ’ul’ kws ’uwu te’ s’ulhtuns tthu me’mun’us.
And again, he asked and again, [Spaal’] said there was no food for his children.
’i’ ni’ tl’uw’ yu xut’ust-hwus ’ul’ ’u tthey’ tthu me’mun’us.
And again, he was doing that to his children.
hwi’ ’uw’ haay’thut ’ul’ kws nilhs ni’ hul’q’ulht tthu thathuns.
He was being unbelievably greedy, the way he kept putting his mouth in the way.
yu ’ew’kw’t tthu wenshum ’u kws wenshewut tthu slhewut’.
He was finishing it all when the herrings were being thrown.
’i’ ni’ tl’e’ wulh luq’elhtus tthu thathuns.
He would put his mouth in the way.
hay ’ul’ ni’ ’uw’ yu sul’uthut-s, ’uw’kw’ ’ul’ tl’e’ tthu [slhewut’ sun’iw’ ’u tthu] la’thun.
He just kept doing that, until all the herring were gone from the platter.
’i’ nuw’ n’exun’ ’ul’ ’u kwthey’ kw’unus ni’ shstatul’stuhw kwthey’...
That’s as far as I know about that...
